CITY OF WHITTLESEA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL REACHES STRUCTURAL COMPLETION

The Allan Labor Government is continuing to deliver families in the outer north world-class care closer to home
with structural works on the multi-million dollar City of Whittlesea Community Hospital in Mernda now complete.

Minister for Health Infrastructure Mary-Anne Thomas was joined by Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage, Member for Mill Park Lily D’Ambrosio, and Member for Thomastown Bronwyn Halfpenny, to celebrate the construction
milestone for the new community hospital which is set to open in 2025.

The single-storey hospital is made up of more than 1,400 cubic metres of concrete, 140 tonnes of steel reinforcement and more than 270 tonnes of structural steel.

With main concrete structure works now complete, the hospital’s striking facade will start to take shape, while
work gets underway on the internal fit-out.

The final structure will reflect the community’s vision for the hospital with architects incorporating feedback into
the design. The hospital will have accessible car parking, clear signage and wayfinding, Indigenous plants, Aboriginal
artworks, natural lighting, and warm colours.
The new City of Whittlesea Community Hospital – operated by Northern Health – will provide a range of integrated
community health and specialist services for people who are not critically unwell.

Services include after-hours care for unplanned, non-emergency moments like the bumps, cuts and bruises associated with everyday life, chemotherapy, chronic disease management, and women’s health.

The new hospital will take pressure off nearby major hospitals including Northern Hospital in Epping – allowing it
to focus on critical care and acute health issues, emergency care and more complex surgeries and procedures.

Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) in partnership with Northern Health, and builder Lendlease, the City of Whittlesea Community Hospital is part of the Victorian Government’s more than $800 million
investment in the Community Hospitals Program.
