Point Nepean Master Plan Released
The Andrews Labor Government will employ new staff and introduce new camping areas as part of the final master plan for the Point Nepean National Park.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change today visited Point Nepean to release the final master plan to guide the future development of the area.
The final plan is a result of extensive community consultation and $3.7 million is being provided for early initiatives including:
- Establishment of the Point Nepean Advisory Group reporting to the Parks Victoria Board
- A new staff member dedicated to the activation of the project
- A new camping experience at the Quarantine Station
- Repairs of the Defence Road out to Fort Nepean
- Upgrading the Quarantine Station disinfecting complex and park-wide interpretation and storytelling
- Improved visitor amenities.
Point Nepean has a rich history as a significant place for Traditional Owners, Australian military and defence, immigration, quarantine and most recently as a national park. Protecting this significant park to ensure this rich history and environment is conserved for future generations is of primary importance.
There will also be a community information session over the coming weeks for people to view the final plan and learn how their feedback was incorporated.
