More students across the state will be able to study VCE Hindi, no matter where they are, thanks to an Andrews Labor Government initiative to broaden choice and quality of VCE subjects.

The Victorian School of Languages today launched a new VCE App for Hindi, with VCE units 1 & 2 available in 2020, and VCE units 3 & 4 available in 2021.

Indian Consul-General Raj Kumar visited the Victorian School of Languages yesterday and was shown the new app.

The e-learning platform for distance language learning will offer students a flexible option for learning Hindi, with voice recordings, interactive tasks and other materials.

The content is designed so students working on their own can practice reading, listening, speaking and writing skills.

The VCE Hindi course adopts a blended learning approach with a mix of online material, printed notes and workbooks, and regular oral lessons with their teacher.

The Victorian School of Languages has offered Hindi since 1987 with other Indian languages added since.

As a key provider of Indian languages in Victoria, the VSL offers face-to-face classes in Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil and Urdu for students in F-10. VCE classes are also available for students studying Hindi, Punjabi and Tamil.

The Labor Government has announced a major expansion of VCE subjects offered through the virtual learning programs of Virtual School Victoria and the Victorian School of Languages, and through a new ‘blended learning’ pilot through Victorian Virtual Learning Network.
