That’s why the Carroll Labor Government is making common sense decisions to reduce spending while protecting frontline services.

Reducing executive positions in the Government 

Victorians are facing cost of living pressures and making tough decisions about their own priorities.

Government must do the same and make every dollar count.

That’s why we reduced the number of Ministers in the Cabinet.

The Government will also reduce the number of public service executive and executive-equivalent roles by a further 140 positions across departments, as well as VIDA and SRLA. 

This additional change saves the Budget more than $100 million.

Reductions are allocated proportionally. Department budgets will be reduced to ensure the savings are realised.

This won’t impact the frontline services Victorians rely on.

It is an important continuation of the Government’s efforts to reduce senior executive expenditure.

Commonsense savings at Parliament 

The Department of Parliamentary Services has previously been exempted from the annual efficiency dividend imposed on government departments.

The Carroll Labor Government will always protect the independence of the Parliament – including its key functions and committees.

But Victorians still want their Parliament to identify savings where they exist.

It is commonsense that this Department should adhere to the same target that other Departments observe.

As part of this process, the Carroll Labor Gvernment is targeting $12 million in savings over the forward estimates from the Parliament.

Savings could include non-core operations and discretionary provision of free services.

The Department will identify savings opportunities while still protecting Parliament’s independence and core functions.
