The Allan Labor Government is making sure every student has access to a world-class education close to home –backing Victoria’s Islamic community with grants to non-government schools for major school expansions.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll today announced that five Islamic schools will share in over $10.6 million to expand their combined enrolment capacities by almost 900 students.
The projects will be delivered as part of the Building Fund for Non-Government Schools Islamic stream. The $450 million fund delivers grants to low-fee independent, Catholic and Islamic schools across Victoria.
The Building Fund for Non-Government Schools Islamic stream has now supported nine Islamic schools with upgrades, upgraded learning spaces and outdoor areas.
Ilim College’s Doveton Campus will receive $3.1 million to help deliver a new three-storey building with four science rooms, an art room, ten classrooms, food technology and multimedia spaces, an IT lab, staff and student spaces and an auditorium.
Al Siraat College in Epping will receive $3.1 million to go towards the construction its Year 7 to 9 Learning Neighbourhood – delivering ten new classrooms, a library, multipurpose spaces and a basketball court.
Minaret College’s Officer Campus will receive $1 million to support a new three-storey classroom building with seven new learning and collaboration areas and staff and student spaces along with the installation of a lift.
Australian International Academy of Education will receive $1 million that will support a new modular building at its Caroline Springs Senior Campus. The new building will have six new classrooms and multipurpose space.
Australian Islamic Centre College in Newport will receive $2.5 million to contribute to their expansion project with seven new classrooms, a boardroom and a staff room.
The investment comes as part of the Labor Government’s $30 million commitment to build and upgrade Islamic schools, as part of a fund to improve low-fee non-government schools.
Overall, the Government has invested $18.5 billion to build new schools and deliver more than 2,300 school upgrades − supporting more than 30,000 jobs in construction and associated industries.
