Children facing cancer deserve the best care, and that starts with world-class research.
That’s why the Carroll Labor Government will make a $500,000 donation for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity (My Room) on behalf of all Victorians.
More than 1,000 children and adolescents in Australia are diagnosed with cancer year.
And tragically, more than 100 children lose their lives to the disease.
Many cancer treatments used in children were originally developed for adults and were developed more than 70 years ago.
This means they can be less effective and cause lifelong side effects in growing bodies.
My Room supports vital work to help address this gap in care, as one of Australia’s leading children’s cancer charities.
They fund cutting-edge medical research, clinical trials and equipment, and provide financial help to families.
The volunteer-led charity was founded by Dr Keith Waters and Mary McGowan OAM in 1993.
Since then, it has raised over $33 million to drive life-changing research into childhood cancer.
The Carroll Labor Government is backing children’s cancer research with a $35 million investment to establish the Children’s Cancer CoLab (CoLab).
CoLab brings together the best and brightest minds to undertake cutting-edge research to tackle childhood cancer.
The Carroll Labor Government’s investment of more than $1.2 billion in our medical research sector has helped make Victoria a global leader in the field.
The Carroll Labor Government will continue supporting Victoria’s leading researchers to turn new ideas into better treatments and better care for Victorians and people around the world.
