The Carroll Labor Government has today locked in a well-deserved pay rise for our hardworking education staff. 

Teachers, principals and support staff do some of the most important work in our state.

They’ve just voted – overwhelmingly – to support a pay rise that recognises it.

Over 80,000 employees participated in the ballot with 93.1 per cent voting to approve the agreement – the highest on record.

This pay rise makes Victorian teachers the best paid in the country, with the best conditions.

It gives them back time too – time to plan, time to support the students who need it most, and less time stuck in meetings that pull them away from the classroom.

An application will now go to the Fair Work Commission. If approved – a process that can take up to six weeks – the new pay and conditions will start seven days after the agreement is published.

The agreement includes:

• Teacher, education support, and principal salaries rising by at least 28.3 per cent over four years, and at least 13 per cent by October 2026
• A $2,000 lump sum payment for all employees when the agreement starts
• Meeting hours outside the school day halved, from 80 to 40 a year
• Professional practice days increased to four, extended to education support staff for the first time
• An overnight payment for staff attending school camps

Every full-time teacher will be earning more by the end of this year, and substantially more by 2030.
