Sustainable Housing Model To Be Expanded
The Andrews Labor Government is helping Nightingale Housing replicate its model for environmentally and socially-sustainable housing developments in Victoria.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate change Lily D’Ambrosio announced today that Nightingale Housing will receive a $100,000 grant – one of the first to be awarded as part of the $1 million Social Impact Investment for Sustainability Program.
Nightingale Housing received the grant for demonstrating that it is a not-for-profit social enterprise delivering positive environmental and social projects.
Nightingale Housing supports the development of energy efficient homes that provide significant cost savings for homeowners.
The funding will enable the sustainability measures from Nightingale 1 to be implemented and improved in the newly announced Nightingale Village, where seven of Melbourne’s leading architectural practices have come together to build a Nightingale precinct.
More than 3,500 people have indicated an interest in this model as potential purchasers.
Nightingale’s sustainability principles will be applied in seven buildings, as well as across the street level.
Nightingale Housing has supported the development of five housing projects using the Nightingale model’s sustainability principles, and won the 2017 Built Environment Category at the Premier’s Sustainability Awards for Nightingale 1 in Brunswick.
The Social Impact Investment for Sustainability Program is supporting investment-ready social enterprises to create new jobs and training opportunities, respond to climate change, avoid and recover waste and improve resource efficiency in the Victorian community.
