Families in Melbourne’s north will soon have access to healthcare, closer to home – with the Allan Labor Government’s Mernda Community Hospital opening its doors next week.
Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas and Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage today opened the new Community Hospital which will welcome its first patients on Monday, 24 November.
Operated by Northern Health, services will roll out progressively to ensure a safe and smooth opening for staff and patients.
From opening, patients will have access to pharmacy, public dental, pathology, allied health, paediatric clinics, respiratory and allergy services and in the new year – more services will become available including renal care and community mental health services, followed by urgent care, imaging and pathology.
Strong links with specialists, community health providers and social support services will ensure seamless follow-up care for patients requiring more complex treatment.
Alongside the recently opened Craigieburn Community Hospital, the Mernda facility will alleviate pressure on the Northern Hospital in Epping – supporting the rapidly growing region, which is home to more than one million people and expected to grow by more than 74 per cent by 2036.
The new Mernda Community Hospital was delivered as part of the Labor Government’s $800 million community hospital program. The project was estimated to have created and sustained around 185 jobs during peak construction.
Mernda community hospital is located at 35 Flourmill Drive, Mernda and will operate 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
