Celebrating Victorian Refugees And Asylum Seekers
The Victorian Government is recognising the outstanding achievements of people and organisations with refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds who are making positive contributions to Victorian society.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ros Spence today announced the recipients of the 2021 Victorian Refugee Awards.
The winners include an advocate in regional Victoria, emerging leaders working in youth affairs and education, and entrepreneurs and volunteers championing the needs and challenges facing Victoria’s multicultural communities – covering issues of homelessness, unemployment, mental health, family violence and COVID-19.
The awards celebrate the ways individuals and businesses with refugee backgrounds enrich our Victorian community.
Recipients of the 2021 Victorian Refugee Leadership Award are Elvis Martin and Philip Moo Eh. Mr Martin was last week also announced as one of 11 community representatives appointed to the Government’s new Anti-Racism Taskforce.
Taj Aldeeb, Paw Ku Htee and Yusuf Liban are the recipients of the 2021 Victorian Refugee Young Leader Award.
Recipients of the 2021 Victorian Refugee Achievement Award are Mohammad Ali Nazari and Nayran Tabiei.
Happy Brain Education, Eva Hussain of Polaron Language Services and Trung-Dzung Le of Hollywood Nails received the 2021 Victorian Refugee Business Award.
The awards coincide with Refugee Week, which runs from Sunday 20 June to Saturday 26 June this year.
Refugee Week raises awareness about issues affecting refugees and celebrates their contribution to our community. The theme for this year is Unity – The Way Forward, which calls for the spirit of unity as communities recover from the isolation endured in 2020.
In addition to the Awards, the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) is supporting a series of community events over the week to share refugee experiences, delivered by the VMC Regional Advisory Councils.
