The Andrews Labor Government is doing more to improve the wellbeing of African Victorians, including young members of the community.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Richard Wynne today announced new and expanded initiatives as part of the African Communities Action Plan – the first of its kind in Australia, designed by African Victorians, for African Victorians.

An extra $1 million will ensure the Community Employment Brokers program will run for a second year.

Expressions of interest are now open for community organisations that are interested in hosting employment brokers, who will provide individualised and tailored support to African Victorians seeking a job.

A one-off grants round worth $240,000 will also be available to eligible groups for community projects that are innovative and positively impact the lives of Victoria’s African communities.

Groups can apply for Individual grants of between $5,000 and $50,000.

This is all part of the Labor Government’s $8.6 million Action Plan – a 10-year strategy to address the needs of African Victorians, in consultation and partnership with the community.

It was launched in April 2018 and is headed by an implementation committee, chaired by Member for Essendon Danny Pearson.
