Victorian carers are set to benefit from new and innovative projects, thanks to a massive funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan today announced $3.9 million for four new state-wide partnership projects and more than 90 local community projects to benefit carers.

Each carer organisation receiving funding will partner with other groups to trial new approaches that improve conditions and opportunities for carers for rollout across the state.

Under the package, Carers Victoria is receiving a grant to work with neighbourhood houses and local councils to set up community resource centres and hubs to support all carers.

Interchange Outer East and Access Health and Community will expand the already successful Pathways Program, which engages, connects and supports carers through organised walks.

To better support young carers, Little Dreamers will partner with the Department of Education and Training and PROJECT ROCKIT to build the capacity of school staff to recognise and support young carers to stay engaged in school.

Financial and Consumer Rights Council and Carers Victoria will also work together to lessen the financial stress for carers through financial counselling and education.

Local community organisations will receive grants of up to $20,000 to improve the health and wellbeing of carers.

Across the state 94 community organisations and groups are receiving grants to support carers to be physically and mentally healthy, socially active and better connected with other carers, support programs and resources.

The Labor Government has invested nearly $50 million in the Victorian Budget 2019/20 for extra respite, transport concessions and grants for local carer groups.
