Partnering With Pride To Prevent Family Violence
Organisations will join forces to identify what works to prevent family violence, thanks to a new guide supported by the Andrews Labor Government
Minister for Prevention of Family Violence Ros Spence welcomed the launch of Rainbow Health Australia’s Pride in Prevention Partnership Guide.
Developed in partnership with Safe and Equal, the guide increases the ability of LGBTIQ+ and family violence prevention organisations to work together to deliver prevention programs addressing family violence experienced by LGBTIQ+ people.
Violence against LGBTIQ+ people is driven by rigid ideas of gender and sexuality that have much in common with the drivers of violence against women.
The Labor Government is leading the nation on family violence reform, taking steps to prevent family violence in Victoria and learn about the drivers of violence against LGBTIQ+ people.
The guide brings together the expertise of organisations working in these sectors and shows that by partnering together, Victoria can be a safer place for LGBTIQ+ people.
The guide is the culmination of the collaborative partnership between Rainbow Health Australia and Safe and Equal.
In December last year, the Government provided Rainbow Health Australia with $750,000 for the continuation of the LGBTIQ+ Family Violence Primary Prevention Project, building on $695,000 funding for the project between 2019 and 2021. These programs complement the guide.
The guide will also support the Government’s landmark 10-year plan to drive equality for LGBTIQ+ communities, Pride in our future: Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ strategy 2022–32.
