Statement From The Premier
Today I am pleased to confirm the appointment of three new members of our Cabinet.
Firstly, Member for Sydenham Natalie Hutchins will rejoin the Ministry.
In 2018, Nat made the difficult decision to step back from the Cabinet, giving her time and space to focus on her family following the passing of her husband, Stephen.
Our Government has always been resolute in our commitment to meaningful equality. And I understand that all too often when women take a step back, they don’t get another opportunity.
If you know Nat, you know her remarkable courage and conviction. Her return to Cabinet is testament to that tenacity – and we are extraordinarily proud to welcome her back.
Shaun Leane will also join the Ministry.
Shaun has served the people of Eastern Metropolitan for close to 15 years, and our Parliament as President of the Legislative Council since 2018. Before that, Shaun worked as an electrician and union representative.
As a Minister, I know he will bring that extraordinary work ethic and keep us grounded as a government of working people – for working people.
Finally, and as previously announced, Danny Pearson will also join Cabinet.
Danny brings with him extensive service as the Member for Essendon, former chair of the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee and Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier.
Over the course of his career, Danny has proven himself as a passionate advocate for progressive values – and a passionate believer in the power of government to change lives. I know he will bring that same energy and enthusiasm to his portfolios.
Portfolios will be assigned in the coming days.
