Victoria Takes Next Step To End Family Violence
The Andrews Labor Government is powering on with its expansion of the Orange Door Network across the state so that Victorians impacted by family violence can get the help they need and be supported closer to home.
Minister for Prevention of Family Violence Gabrielle Williams today announced the final four Orange Door sites that will complete the statewide rollout as Hume Moreland, Brimbank Melton, Western Melbourne and Outer East Melbourne.
The $448 million Orange Door Network is an Australian-first initiative and a free service that brings immediate and ongoing support services under the one roof.
Workers from across family violence, child and family, Aboriginal and men’s services can provide a range of supports, from risk assessments, safety planning and crisis assistance, as well as vital connections to services for ongoing help.
Hume Moreland is expected to be set up next year, with the other three to be completed in 2022.
Each Orange Door has a primary site which is then complemented by additional access points and outposts, making it even easier for people to get in-person support wherever they live.
The Network is currently operating in seven areas in Victoria – with more than 100,000 people having been referred to or directly supported since 2018 – and the remaining ten Orange Doors to be established within the next two years.
The announcement of the final four sites comes as the Labor Government released the Family Violence Reform Rolling Action Plan 2020-2023 – the next step in our 10-year agenda to build a Victoria free from family violence.
The plan is accessible to all Victorians online and details the Government’s work to date and the activities we’ll continue to implement over the next three years.
We’ve invested more than $3 billion to the fight against family violence and to progress gender equality so far, which has led the establishment of the Orange Door Network, Respect Victoria and the passing of the Gender Equality Act 2020.
