Yume Food Wins Major Premier’s Sustainability Award
Yume Food has won the Premier’s Recognition Award at the Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Awards for developing an online marketplace for quality surplus food.
Minister for Environment Lily D’Ambrosio presented the award to Yume Food at a ceremony in Melbourne last night for its work connecting suppliers with buyers to help mitigate the 9.5 million tonnes of food that goes to landfill in Australia every year.
Yume Food facilitates transactions between buyers and suppliers, arranges delivery of goods and manages donations to registered food rescue organisations, helping ensure food gets to the people who need it most.
Earlier in the evening, Yume Food won the Innovative Products or Services category, as well as the Small and Medium Enterprises category.
The Premier’s Regional Recognition Award was won by the Gannawarra Shire Council for a program that puts sustainability at the heart of its local economic future, featuring the first large scale solar farm and battery storage in Victoria.
Celebrating its 16th year, the Premier’s Sustainability Awards is Victoria’s highest-profile sustainability awards program across business, government, health, education and community.
